Meet the 2024 Summer Staff!
Deanna Jaroche, Camp Steward
Deanna is a Woods Hole resident with over 20 years of experience as a high school science teacher and informal science educator. She also co-owned and operated a restaurant and catering business for 10 years. Deanna enjoys spending time outside and studying nature. She is excited to bring her love of nature, cooking, and experiential learning to Penikese.
In her free time she enjoys hiking, rowing, studying & practicing permaculture, growing flowers, and traveling.
Isabelle Stewart, Camp Steward
Isabelle grew up in Bourne, MA, where she spent her time exploring the woods and waters of Cape Cod. After graduating from Gettysburg College with a degree in Biology, she began doing public health research at Northwestern University. Next year, she will be taking on a role as a Teaching Fellow at Maine Coast Semester. Her passion for experiential and environmental education grew during college, as she led wilderness trips and worked at a summer camp in Maine. Isabelle is thrilled to bring her love for nature and marine science to Penikese Island this summer! In her free time, she enjoys swimming (especially in the ocean), baking, hiking, and making block prints.
Libby Cutler, Camp Counselor
Libby just finished her sophomore year at Colorado College where she is majoring in Environmental Studies. Libby grew up in Scituate, MA where she developed a strong passion for the ocean and learning about marine environments. Libby was a counselor on Penikese last year in 2023 and she cannot wait for another year of having fun, learning, and exploring Penikese!
Emma Serralles, Camp Counselor
Emma is originally from Puerto Rico but currently lives in Seattle, WA. She just finished her freshman year at Colorado College where she is majoring in Organismal Biology and Ecology. Emma loves being outside and learning about the environment and can't wait to share her knowledge, continue to learn, and have a blast this summer on Penikese!
Elizabeth Salley, Camp Counselor
Elizabeth is from Newtown, Connecticut, and just finished her Master's in Elementary Education at Sacred Heart University. She got her undergraduate degree in STEM Education, and has spent years outdoors teaching nature classes and leading science camps! In her free time, Elizabeth loves reading, hiking and traveling. She is looking forward to having a new adventure at Penikese this summer!
