Penikese Membership

Join our community of supporters

Penikese Members are a dedicated community of supporters who believe in the power of place-based education, environmental stewardship, and equitable access to hands-on science learning.

An annual $100 membership is a simple but meaningful way to signal your commitment to Penikese Island, our mission, and the community that sustains it. Members join our Board, Advisory Council, Island Caretakers, educators, and volunteers in stewarding Penikese Island School and its educational programs.

Membership support directly advances field science programs, school trips, student scholarships, and the ongoing care of Penikese Island.

Membership Includes:
  • Invitations to Island Clean-Up Days and select volunteer opportunities.

  • Opportunities to travel to Penikese aboard the M/V Richard Edwards.

  • An invitation to the Penikese Members Gathering, held each fall at our Woods Hole Shore Office.

  • Regular updates on Penikese programs, events, talks, and ways to engage throughout the year.

  • Most importantly, membership reflects a shared belief in access, stewardship, and the transformative power of learning rooted in place.

The Penikese Island School acknowledges that we are gathering on the unceded ancestral land of the Wôpanâak (Wampanoag) Nation.  We recognize and respect the Wampanoag people and honor their enduring relationship with this land.  This Land Acknowledgment is an intentional act to counter the erasure of Indigenous people and to demonstrate respect for their sovereign rights.  We are committed to educating our staff and students about the longstanding history of the Wampanoag people.
